The amazing article :).
This is exactly what it sounds like, an awesome flashing cube of LED's. After seeing a 512 LED cube on hackaday I decided that I needed one for myself and went right to ebay to find some cheap LED's. Although 512 LED's seems like a daunting number it only took one weekend to make the control circuit and construct the cube, the code and animations though took a few weeks, maybe coding isn't my thing. I will go through some of the steps and theory here and you can see the results in the video at the end.

Filmmaker of anti-Islam video arrested in Los Angeles
ABC has reported that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula the producer of anti Islamic movie which led to the violent protest all over the world has been arrest by the police.
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office says that Nakoula was questioned at the begining of this month and this time has been detained. The US Attorney’s spokesman Thom Mrozek said “I can confirm he’s in custody, scheduled to make a court appearance as we speak, in federal court in downtown LA’‘.
The nature of arrest is yet vague as the court documents have been sealed and also the filmmaker has been involved in an other criminal activity and this arrest could be related to his previous offence.
In February 2009, Nakoula was accused of fraud, obtaining the identities and social security numbers of customers at several banks in Californiaand withdrawing $860 from them. As reported by ABC.
The Anti-Islamic movie has already done enough damage around the globe, death of US ambassador, arrest ofBrazil’s Google CEO, violent protests, killings of 19 protesters in Pakistan and cyber-attacks on United States government websites are few examples of anger among the Muslim world against the movie.

The YouTube clip that started riots in the Muslim world been banned in Brazil and the CEO of Google’s Brazil Operations Fabio Coelho was arrested yesterday in São Paulo for ignoring Brazilian local judge court orders and for not removing the Anti-Islamic clip “The Innocence of Muslims” and other violent videos from YouTube.
The story is that a local Brazilian judge Mato Grosso do Sul had issued a ten days notice to the Google’s Brazilian CEO to remove the Anti-Islamic video and several other violent clips of abortion and rapes from YouTube but the orders were ignored by the Google administration.
The judge then not only issued arrest warrant but also ordered to ban YouTube for whole one day in the state of São Paulo, citing the CEO as responsible for Google’s failure to take down certain videos critical of a mayoral candidate. However, the exact date of one day YouTube blockage has yet not been confirmed.
More land at sinkhole falls in
A 1,500-square-foot section of earth caved in from the edge of a slurry-filled sinkhole near Bayou Corne in Assumption Parish on Tuesday night, pulling down with it several trees and part of an access road, officials said Wednesday.
The road was built as a place for parking excavators that will be used in the pending cleanup of the sinkhole, which emerged Aug. 3 in swamps between the Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou areas on property owned by Texas Brine Co., parish officials said in a blog post.
The sinkhole — filled with a liquid mixture of brine, mud, vegetative matter and other substances — has forced the evacuation of residents in 150 households in the two communities.

Texting woman rescued after fall off Kodiak cliff
KODIAK -- Fire officials faced a double challenge during a recent rescue: A woman fell 60 feet down a cliff to rocks as the tide crept in along a Kodiak beach.
The home of the woman, Maria Pestrikoff, sits on the cliff. While texting on Sept. 17, she walked close to the edge to discard a cigarette butt. She slipped on wet grass and fell, her friend Anthony Burke told the Kodiak Daily Mirror in a story Wednesday.
"She was in the rocks between the boulders and she was calling for help," Burke said. "She was screaming in agony."
Bayside Fire Department received the first call for help. Chief Bob Himes said the Kodiak Fire Department was quickly summoned for its expertise in rope rescues.

Charles Halt, Former Air Force Colonel, Accuses U.S. Of UFO Cover-Up
LAS VEGAS -- Former Air Force Col. Charles Halt accused the federal government of a UFO cover-up that involves a secret agency to deal with what might be extraterrestrial visitations.
"I'm firmly convinced there's an agency, and there is an effort to suppress," Halt told an audience of 200 people Saturday night at the Smithsonian-affiliated National Atomic Testing Museum.
Two former Air Force officers who were part of the infamous Project Blue Book -- the military's official UFO investigation in the 1950s and '60s -- and a former investigator with Britain's Ministry of Defense were among the panel of speakers for a program entitled "Military UFOs: Secrets Revealed."
UFO Secrets To Be Revealed At National Atomic Testing Museum
Four retired Army and Air Force colonels and a former British Ministry of Defense investigator join forces this weekend at the National Atomic Testing Museum to speak on a subject public officials rarely address -- UFOs.
The Smithsonian-affiliated museum's special lecture, "Military UFOs: Secrets Revealed" is open to the public and has been long anticipated by researchers of unexplained phenomena.
Air Force mystery plane set for next mission
The U.S. military's mysterious X-37B space plane is headed back into the great beyond to do… whatever it does up there.
The X-37B is slated for its third launch in October, the Air Force said, but like its two orbital predecessors, the mission of the unmanned spacecraft remains shrouded in secrecy. The exact timing of the October spaceflight, dubbed Orbital Test Vechicle-3 or OTV-3, is also tentative.
"We are on track for the launch of the X-37B to occur next month, but the exact date of the launch is dependent on a number of factors including range conditions and weather," Air Force spokespersonLt. Col . John Dorrian told ABC News. The 29-foot-long vehicle is set to launch aboard an Atlas 5 rocket from the Florida station of Cape Canaveral.

New SARS-like virus detected in Middle East
LONDON (AP) — British health authorities have alerted the U.N. of a new respiratory virus that resembles SARS in a severely ill patient who recently traveled to Saudi Arabia — where another man died of a similar illness earlier this year.
The man in the new case was sickened by a coronavirus, which causes most common colds but also causes SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome. In 2003, SARS killed hundreds of people, mostly in Asia, in a short-lived outbreak.

Super-earth close to red dwarf star Gliese 163 'top contender' for supporting life
A newly-discovered 'super-earth' at the edge of a star's habitable zone could be a top contender for an alien planet beyond ours which supports life.
Gliese 163c, which lies beside a red dwarf star, has a mass of 6.9 times that of Earth and an orbital period of 26 days.
Researchers believe the new-found world's location means it could be a super-earth where liquid water could exist.

Pyramids on Mars? Curiosity discovers mysterious rock on the red planet (and Nasa name it Jake after late scientist)
Looking uncannily like an Egyptian pyramid, it is not something you would expect to see on the surface of Mars.
Nasa engineers were so intrigued by the unique, football sized rock, they have driven the Curiosity rover up to it for a closer rock.
The football-size rock will be the first on Mars to be examined by rover's robotic arm .

YouTube Refuses To Remove Anti-Islamic Film Clip
"BBC reports that Google officials have rejected the notion of removing a video that depicts the prophet as a fraud and philanderer and has been blamed for sparking violence at U.S. embassies in Cairo and Benghazi. Google says the video does not violate YouTube's policies, but they did restrict viewers in Egypt and Libya from loading it due to the special circumstances in the country. Google's response to the crisis highlighted the struggle faced by the company, and others like it, to balance free speech with legal and ethical concerns in an age when social media can impact world events. 'This video – which is widely available on the Web – is clearly within our guidelines and so will stay on YouTube,' Google said in a statement. 'However, given the very difficult situation in Libya and Egypt, we have temporarily restricted access in both countries.' Underscoring Google's quandary, some digital free expression groups have criticized YouTube for censoring the video. Eva Galperin of the Electronic Frontier Foundation says given Google' s strong track record of protecting free speech, she was surprised the company gave in to pressure to selectively block the video. 'It is extremely unusual for YouTube to block a video in any country without it being a violation of their terms of service or in response to a valid legal complaint,' says Galperin. 'I'm not sure they did the right thing.'"

2012 U.S. diplomatic missions attacks [updated]
On September 11, 2012, the U.S. embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were attacked during protests over media excerpts of trailers of a film[12][13] titled Innocence of Muslims, which was considered by the attackers to be blasphemous against the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. In Egypt, a group scaled the embassy wall and tore down the American flag, replacing it with a black Islamist flag. In Libya, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fired at the consulate by the militants set a fire that killed the visiting U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, two U.S. Marines,[14] Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith,[15] ten Libyan policemen;[16] and injured two others.

More Than 300 Killed in Pakistani Factory Fires
ARACHI, Pakistan — Fire ravaged a textile factory complex in the commercial hub of Karachi early Wednesday, killing almost 300 workers trapped behind locked doors and raising questions about the woeful lack of regulation in a vital sector of Pakistan’s faltering economy. It was Pakistan’s worst industrial accident, officials said, and it came just hours after another fire, at a shoe factory in the eastern city of Lahore, had killed at least 25.
Flames and smoke swept the cramped textile factory in Baldia Town, a northwestern industrial suburb, creating panic among the hundreds of poorly paid workers who had been making undergarments and plastic tools.

2 tornadoes strike in NYC; no injuries reported
NEW YORK (AP) — Two tornadoes struck the outer edges of New York City on Saturday, hurling debris into the air and knocking out power but causing no serious injuries among startled residents accustomed to thinking of twisters as a Midwestern phenomenon.
The first hit a beachfront neighborhood and the second, stronger tornado followed moments later about 10 miles away.
Videos taken by bystanders showed a funnel cloud sucking up water, then sand, and then small pieces of buildings, as the first moved through the Breezy Point section of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens.
The second hit to the northwest, in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn also near the water, about seven minutes later. The National Weather Service said winds were up to 110 miles per hour, and several homes and trees were damaged.

FBI Launches $1 Billion Nationwide Face Recognition System
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has begun rolling out its new $1 billion biometric Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. In essence, NGI is a nationwide database of mugshots, iris scans, DNA records, voice samples, and other biometrics that will help the FBI identify and catch criminals — but it is how this biometric data is captured, through a nationwide network of cameras and photo databases, that is raising the eyebrows of privacy advocates. Until now, the FBI relied on IAFIS, a national fingerprint database that has long been due an overhaul. Over the last few months, the FBI has been pilot testing a face recognition system, which will soon be scaled up (PDF) until it's nationwide

Experts warn Mount Fuji is dangerously close to erupting
Japanese scientists are warning that the country's famed Mount Fuji could be on the verge of a catastrophic eruption. Volcanologists have discovered that the pressure in the volcano's magma chamber is higher than it was the last time Fuji erupted in 1707. The pressure is measured in megapascals, and researchers say recent readings show the chamber hitting a level of 1.6; pressure readings of 0.1 megapascals are enough to trigger an eruption. Scientists say the March 2011 earthquake that caused a massive tsunami has been one factor in putting increased pressure on the chamber. Government estimates say an eruption could result in more than 300,000 deaths as well as cause up to $30 billion in damage.

HAZMAT in Nigeria, 400 children have died after releasing lead gas
An estimated 400 children have died from the inhalation of lead poison in six communities in Zamfara State due to improper mining practices. Hamzat Bala Lawal, the National Coordinator, African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC), Nigeria chapter, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja. Lawal, who is also the Advisor, Nigerian Youth Climate Action Network (NYCAN), said that the root cause of the lead poisoning crisis was unsafe mining and ore processing. He stressed the need to provide access to facilities and programmes to people engaged in mining and ore processing, to enable to safely mine and process ore without exposing themselves or others to toxic lead. He quoted Medecins sans Frontieres, an international NGO, as saying that the environment had to be properly sanitised for the affected children to receive adequate treatment. Lawal said that his organisation had been advocating for the federal government to release $5.4 million for environmental remediation, to eliminate the contaminant. According to him, the process of eliminating the poison from the communities would take a period of three to six months. "Over 1,000 people have died from this poison in these six communities due to mining activities," he said. "Overtime, we will adopt the best practice of mining in order not to re-pollute the environment." The coordinator also advocated for a functional National Climate Change Commission which would provide leadership, coordination, resources and information to fully respond to climate change.
