Performance tuning : Swappiness

I got my linux pc was slowing down because of swap. Then, I checked in htop, oh, my main memmory was about 1.5 GB left (totally 4 GB). Why swap was allocated util main memory was 85 or 90%? I ask a help from my senior. He said to google "Swappiness". I found one of the solutions and did as they said. Now, I am ok. I set vm.swappiness = 10 and rebooted.
